How to Heat Hard Wax to Get the Best Consistency

Intro

Heating hard wax to the right temperature and ensuring an even consistency may seem tricky at first. But it’s not that hard. A wax heater is most commonly used by professionals and estheticians at waxing spas and salons, so we recommend using it for the best results.

In this guide, we will go over how to heat hard wax to get the best consistency.

The Best Method: Wax Heater

The best way to warm up hard wax is through a wax heater. These are purpose-built machines used for heating hard wax before application. Because of this, they are easy-to-use, effective, and reliable. With the right procedure, you can ensure the best, thick, almost honey-like consistency for your hard wax before applying it on a client’s skin.

Directions:

Put your hard wax tablets into the inner pot of the heater. Set the thermostat to the maximum or 70% and wait for 10-15 minutes, depending on the amount of wax you use. Use 15 minutes for a larger quantity, and 10 minutes for medium or lesser quantity.

Some wax heaters will also have an accurate thermometer that allows users to see when it has reached the desired temperature easily. Alternatively, you can use a thermometer. Most premium quality hard waxes have a lower melting point, allowing for an easy and quick application while at the same time avoiding burning your client’s skin.

For these low-melting point waxes, the ideal temperature range is 96.8 - 104 °F (36-40°C). For other waxes, it’s usually 125–160 °F (52–71 °C).

Tips:

Stir, Stir, Stir!

One of the key tips for ensuring the best honey or molasses-like consistency is by stirring frequently. You can’t just throw in the wax and expect the heater to do the entire job. To ensure that it keeps great consistency, you have to stir it the right way.

While your wax is melting, use a waxing stick to rub the remaining solid portion of the wax that hasn’t melted yet. By applying a bit of pressure while rubbing, you will not only speed up the melting process but also ensure that it melts thoroughly and keeps the thickness intact.

Next, you can add in new tablets or beads of hard wax to the mix as required. Stir some more. Then, cover the heater again and leave it for a few minutes to let it melt the hard wax. Don’t leave your heater unattended! Stir it every now and then to make sure it keeps the right consistency while you’re waxing your clients.

Now, whenever you go to the wax heater to apply some wax on your stick for waxing a client, first stir it a few times. This ensures that the top layer has not solidified, and it keeps perfect consistency. Remember, practice makes an effort!

Bonus: put your stick in the wax and wrap some wax around by twirling it. Pick it up and rotate it. If the wax takes 2-3 seconds to drip, you’ve got the thick, molasses-like consistency. Good job!

We hope you found our tips for melting hard wax useful. With only a little effort, you can learn how to heat hard wax to get the best consistency. If you’re interested in high quality, low melting point waxes which are ideal for sensitive skin, we have some great options for you!
